Important Note for Support Staff: Pocket money guidelines apply to camps that are exempt from minimum wage requirements on federal, state and local
levels. Camps that are not exempt are to provide additional compensation to participants in order to fulfill such requirements as specified in U.S. Department of
State regulations governing the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program.
OT = Own Travel - Participant is responsible for booking own travel
“Experienced Counselor” refers to an applicant who has successfully completed at least one season at a different camp on a designated J-1 camp counselor program.
Notes on Fees
- All staff selected are subject to a $35 SEVIS tracking fee.
- Additional pocket money is payable according to the following schedule:
- Resident camps: First year staff are to be paid $200 per week after the
first nine weeks, including pre-camp.
- Day camps (weekends off): First year staff are to be paid $200 per week
after the first ten weeks, including pre-camp.
- Camps are responsible for flight assisted participant’s cost of traveling to
camp after arriving in the U.S. (including if applicable, $15 transportation
fee from hotel to non-airport locations). Surcharges for alternate arrival
gateways are listed in the 2018 one-way flight prices document.
- Fees and pocket money are configured differently for participants who
provide their own transportation. The total cost to you will remain the same.
- There are no fuel surcharges in 2018, guaranteed.
- Camp America imposes a cancellation penalty for participants “dropped”
without a valid reason. The cancellation penalty for 2018 is $400 per
participant.
- Fifty percent of the total amount payable is due June 1, and the balance
on August 1. Since we make substantial payments for transportation,
recruitment and other costs in advance of staff arrival, we assess a finance
charge of 1.5% per month for late payments after September 1.
- Should Camp America encounter constraints with regard to allocation of
U.S. State Department J-1 visa application Forms DS-2019, the program
may accordingly set deadlines, quotas or other restrictions on applicant
qualification for repeat counselor fee category.
